The holiday season is difficult for many - and this year will prove especially difficult for even more! This year’s Giving Tree provides our parish an opportunity to share our blessings with those less fortunate and in doing so, we act as Christ for our fellow brothers and sisters who need our help and our love.
In the past, the Giving Tree was set up the week before Thanksgiving, but this year with Thanksgiving falling on November 27th, and our organizations need donations by December 8th, we will be setting up the tree early to ensure timely delivery of our gifts to those in need. To accommodate the organizations we work with, this year we are setting up the tree two weeks before Thanksgiving. This will give everyone more time to shop and return their donations NO LATER than by December 6th.
Listed below are the organizations that need our assistance this holiday season:
• Franciscan Ministry – Serves the homeless and low-income families in Detroit and the Detroit Metro Area
• Most Holy Trinity – Serves the homeless and low-income families in Detroit
• Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan: Project Hope – Project Hope helps Mothers in need with caring for their infants.
• Pope Francis Center - Serves the homeless in Detroit
• St. Malachy – For the people of our community who come to our door who need help for food, gas money, or to help paying utility bills. (We would like to kindly request the cards be in smaller denominations of no more than $25.)
• Vets Returning Home - Helps with vets returning home from service to their and reuniting with their families
• Big Family of Michigan - Supports and serves the needs of foster children, institutionalized children, and grandchildren raised by their grandparents
The above organizations have all experienced a significant increase in their need for donations as more people need help in our community. Please consider taking a tag or two from our Giving Tree which will be set up at the front of the church just beyond the baptismal font in beginning Friday, November 14th.
Donations MUST be returned by the weekend of December 5th and 6th.
PLEASE NOTE: We DO NOT ACCEPT USED CLOTHING OR USED ITEMS AS DONATIONS FOR THE GIVING TREE. Anything used that is donated will be discarded ALL items donated MUST BE brand new. If you are considering writing a check to Project Hope, please make it payable to: Project Hope of Catholic Charities SEM
